History of Back Porch Designs

Owner/artist Carla Aleci

I started Back Porch Designs December 2018, two months after Hurricane Michael devastated the Forgotten Coast.

The company I had been with for eight years laid me off two weeks after the hurricane(outsourced my position).

It was a very dark time mentally and the only way to ease my stress was to walk the beach with my dogs Jasper, Druzy and Terrie, my friend's dog.

The beaches were loaded with debris from the storm. I walked everyday picking up the trash along with the treasures. One day in December while walking it came to me that I was done working for the corporate world. I never wanted to feel that abandoned again.

I was fortunate that my husband started his own business, FC Grading, again thanks to Michael.

I would become an artist full time and it has been the best decision I ever made.

Excited to say my art is being sold at Goin Coastal in Port St Joe,Fl. and The Pearl in Apalachicola, FL.

Examples of my pieces

The madness behind my work

I have always had a fascination with broken shells. To me they represented that even broken can be made into something beautiful. After Hurricane Michael the beaches were full of driftwood in which I collected and created pieces combining the broken shells to hold air plants. I also collect old pictures and knick knacks to repurpose for my art.
